Toward the end of World War II, on Shahrivar 18th 1324, "Docharkhe Savaran Club" was founded with several different sports. On Bahman 22nd 1328, it was renamed as Taj and again the name was changed 30 years later on Farvardin 20th 1358. It has been known as Esteghlal from then on. The soccer team of Esteghlal Club is one of the three most glorious teams of Asia. It has won two cups in AFC Champions League and has made it to the final 4 times. This popular club has been able to claim the champion award in different sports especially soccer.
